JA Digital Services

Artists are asking each day about the latest print process.  To create a viable product you want to be able to provide the art buying public with a print that will last for years.  Limited edition prints are very popular and can have long lasting value.  One of the most popular processes for printing today is a process call "Giclee", (pronounced gee clay).

The word "Giclee" is French and means "to spray".  A "giclee" print is the highest quality print available today.  When the "giclee" print is made from a scan of the original piece of art and adjusted in one of the leading color adjustment software packages, you will have the highest quality print possible.  The printer sprays droplets of archival ink onto a high quality paper which is specially coated to receive the inks.  The paper used is also an archival product that allows the prints a life span anywhere from 35 to 75 years or longer. Tests are always underway on a variety of inks and paper.  Whilhelm Research Institute conducts studies continually.

JA Digital Services was created to provide two dimentional artists with an alternative to large lithograph printing requirements.  JA Digital Services provides the ability to have a small number of prints made at a fraction of the cost of lithograph printing.  The artist can order as few as one print or as many as one hundred prints without cost penalties.

JA Digital Services provides a better, less costly opportunity for an artist to reproduce a painting and test the market. It also provides a product that is clear, with sharp accurate color and a better longevity than lithograph printing.

The process is simple. JA Digital will image scan an original work of art, balance the colors to reflect the original accurately. It will then produce an archival print that is saleable in the world art market.

The artist can order as few as one print at a time and the set up costs would vary depending on the size of the picture and whether the artist wanted paper or canvas "Giclees". You would then add the cost of each print ordered to this cost. The print cost run between $8-$42 a page depending on the size ordered.

In the past an artist who wanted to test a painting for marketing would have a lithograph made. This was a costly process. To set up the printing a company would charge large fees and require the artist to order at least 100 prints. The artist, would pay several thousand dollars for the initial set up. Following the set up and initial printing, the artist would then be required to reorder prints in 100 print runs. Additionally, color adjustments sometimes lead to battles since the colors were often wrong, or dull and would fade easily. The artist still did not know if she or he had a good saleable picture? If the prints didn't sell, the artist would be left with sometimes hundreds of prints to store.

As you can see not many artist could afford to test the market with each painting they produced.
